She Takes Her Seat was founded by Latoya Belfon-John.
A seat is not only a place. It is a decision.
For me, that decision began more than five years ago.
Where It Started: Winning Women
In 2021, I founded Winning Women , an initiative built on a simple conviction: women entrepreneurs grow faster when successful women hand their knowledge directly to them. Through video, I brought the lessons, strategies, and hard-won wisdom of accomplished women to the women building behind them.
Winning Women taught me something I never let go of: knowledge moves differently between women. It lands deeper. It multiplies.
The Evolution
Over the years, the vision kept growing — because I kept growing. As a Grenadian-Canadian author and the founder of Labworks Publishing, literature has always been my first language. I began to see how the pieces of my life's work belonged in one room:
The empowerment of women entrepreneurs, with real resources to grow their businesses. The transformative power of books — the tool I have built my career on. And a love for the fancy things: a beautifully curated event, luxury, class — a setting worthy of the calibre of intelligent women who would fill it.
Not a networking event. Not a webinar. A salon. A long table, a powerful book at its centre, and a room of incredible, knowledgeable women growing in mindset together.
The Tug
The moment the vision demanded to become real was a book: Emma Grede's Start With Yourself. Reading about how much women sacrifice — as mothers, as builders, as the quiet infrastructure of everyone else's ambition — I felt a tug I could not ignore. Women give so much of themselves away that the seat at their own table is often the last one they claim.
I decided to build the room where they claim it first.
I began developing She Takes Her Seat in May 2026— the name, the vision, and the shape of the room were slowly building.
From the beginning, I had the support of incredible women who saw the benefit immediately — women who understood this was something more intentional. Their belief was a catalyst. The vision, the name, and the movement carry a lineage more than five years in the making — and they are mine. The room was built with incredible women carrying the vision along.
The First Room
On June 19th, 2026, the inaugural She Takes Her Seat gathering took place in Montréal. One powerful book. One long table. A room filled with presence, wisdom, and forward movement — exactly as it was designed to be.
It was the first room. It will not be the last.
